About the gameHow Same Color works,
How Same Color works,
in short.
- Step 01
Spot a group of touching same-color blocks.
Blocks of the same color that sit side by side — connected up, down, left, or right (not diagonally) — form a group. A group must be at least two blocks to be removable.
- Step 02
Tap once to select, tap again to clear it.
The first tap highlights the whole connected group; a second tap on it removes every block in one go. Bigger groups are worth far more — clearing n blocks scores (n − 2)², so ten at once beats five pairs.
- Step 03
Blocks fall, columns close up.
After a clear, blocks above drop into the gap and any fully emptied column slides to the right. The round ends when no same-color neighbors remain — empty the whole board for a big bonus.
Questions
Same Color questions, answered.
Same Color is a tile-clearing puzzle from the early 1980s, also known as SameGame. You remove groups of same-colored blocks from a grid; with every clear the remaining blocks settle downward, and the goal is to score as highly as you can — ideally emptying the board.
Tap any block that has at least one same-color neighbor. The first tap highlights the whole connected group; tap it a second time to remove it. Tapping a different group moves the highlight; tapping a lone block or empty space clears the highlight. On a keyboard you can focus the board and use the arrow keys to move the cursor, Enter to select or clear, and Escape to deselect.
Blocks of one color that connect horizontally or vertically — never diagonally. A single block, or one with no same-color neighbor, can not be removed, so isolated blocks are what you are trying to avoid leaving behind.
Clearing a group of n blocks scores (n − 2)² points. Two blocks score nothing, three score 1, five score 9, ten score 64. Because the curve is steep, merging colors into one large group before you clear it is far more valuable than removing many small ones.
Gravity pulls the blocks above the gap straight down to fill it. If clearing a group empties an entire column, the columns to its right slide left to close the gap. Planning around this settling is the heart of the strategy.
Yes. Empty the board completely and you earn a 1000-point clear bonus on top of your score. The round also ends when no removable groups are left, even if some single blocks remain stranded.
Yes. The Undo button steps back one clear at a time, so you can experiment with an order, see how the board settles, and back out if it strands blocks. Your best score per board size is saved on your device.
Yes. Selecting and clearing groups is all single taps, the board scales to fit the screen, and the score, remaining-block count, and controls stay visible the whole game.
