Releases

5.11.0

Chess and Sea Battle

Highlights

  • Adds Chess, the most requested game: the full game against the computer, with castling, en passant and promotion to the piece you pick. Easy, Medium and Hard look further ahead each step up, Take back undoes your last move, an unfinished game is saved on this device, and your win-loss-draw record is kept for each level
  • Adds Sea Battle, the game of hidden fleets: find and sink five enemy ships one shot at a time before the computer sinks yours. The water round a sunk ship is marked for you, Shuffle fleet re-deals your ships until your first shot, and your fewest-shots win is kept for each level
  • Gomoku is now Five in a Row, and gains a Captures rule: flank exactly two of the computer's stones to take them, and win with a line of five or your fifth captured pair. Your old record carries over to Classic, and old links still work

5.10.1

Kid-friendly word games

Highlights

  • Word Guess, Quad Words and Letter Swap no longer use mature words as answers, so they're safe for younger players. Thanks to the player who suggested it
  • Word Guess challenge links can't use those words either, and slurs and swear words are no longer accepted as guesses

5.10.0

Hangman

Highlights

  • Adds Hangman, the classic word-guessing game: find the hidden word one letter at a time, with its category as a clue, before the figure is drawn. Easy gives you ten misses, Medium eight and Hard six, Hint reveals a letter for the price of one miss, and your win streak is kept on this device

5.9.1

Harder games across the arcade

Highlights

  • Sling Monkey is harder at every difficulty: pegs sit further apart, moving and crumbling pegs, blades and sweepers turn up sooner, and crumbling pegs give way after about a second
  • Wingbeat now ramps up as you go: the gaps narrow, the towers speed up and they bunch closer together
  • The Paddle Ball opponent reads where the ball will land on Medium and Hard, so edge shots no longer beat it every time
  • Block Fit hands out bigger, awkward pieces as your score climbs
  • aa adds pins and obstacles every few rounds, and Medium now flips direction too
  • Snake on Hard plays on a tighter 18×18 board and keeps speeding up for longer
  • Sky Jumper, Brick Breaker, Marble Shooter, Bubble Shooter, Cube Dash, Starfall, Survivors and Falling Blocks reach their toughest pace sooner or push it further
  • Ultimate Tic-Tac-Toe makes far fewer slips on Medium and Hard
  • Number Memory shows each digit for less time, and the big Find the Pair board gets a shorter peek
  • Harder puzzles: Akari has fewer walls on Medium and Hard, Tents and Trees has more trees, Shikaku Hard is 10×10 with bigger rectangles, Untangle Hard has more dots, and Water Sort Hard leaves just one empty tube

Fixes

  • Akari Medium and Hard puzzles now load much faster

5.9.0

Sound effects, if you want them

Highlights

  • Cube Dash, aa, Paddle Ball, Sling Monkey, Hop Kingdom and Snake now have short action sounds: a jump, a hit, a thud, a pop, a crash
  • Sound is off until you turn it on with the Sound button above the game, and one switch covers every game on your device
  • There's no music: only the sound of what just happened in the game
  • On phones, crashes and big hits give a short buzz while sound is on

5.8.1

Fairer arcade games

Highlights

  • Share result in Cube Dash, aa, Paddle Ball, Sling Monkey, Hop Kingdom and Snake now shares how your run went (your height, round, score or track) instead of just the game
  • In Paddle Ball the computer now serves by itself, so you're not left pressing a key to start its point
  • In aa the wheel fires the moment you press it, not when you lift your finger, so your timing lands where you meant it

Fixes

  • Sling Monkey: a tap just after losing no longer restarts the run before the end card shows; your height now counts the highest branch you actually grabbed, not how high a missed fling flew; letting go of the sling while paused no longer fires a shot when you resume; and difficulty can't be changed mid-run
  • Cube Dash: your best and your attempt count are saved on every crash, not only when you clear a track; switching windows while holding a key no longer leaves the cube jumping by itself
  • aa: holding Space or Enter fires one pin instead of a stream; Try again replays the same wheel instead of a new one
  • Snake: each difficulty keeps its own best score; you can change difficulty straight after a game ends; a won board no longer shows an apple under the head
  • Paddle Ball: win streaks are kept per difficulty, and changing difficulty or quitting a match part-way ends the current streak; the ball no longer leaves a streak across the court after a point
  • Hop Kingdom: the hero no longer keeps running after you resume if a thumb was on a button when the game paused; the level picker is locked mid-run so it can't throw away your run, and coins from a restarted run still count
